Cancellation & Refund Policy
Last updated: July 14, 2026
Mapapu (a service of Butterfly International LLC, Iowa, USA) acts as an intermediary for third-party Suppliers. Your right to cancel a booking and receive a refund depends primarily on the fare rules or rate conditions displayed before you complete a purchase. These conditions are shown on the product and checkout screens and also appear on your booking confirmation.
1. General Principles
- Each product page and checkout screen clearly indicates whether a fare or rate is refundable or non-refundable, and states any change or cancellation fees.
- By completing the purchase you accept the applicable Supplier's fare rules or rate conditions.
- Where a Supplier charges a change or cancellation fee, that fee will be deducted from any refund due.
- Mapapu service fees, if any, are non-refundable unless required by law.
2. Flights
US DOT 24-Hour Rule
In accordance with the U.S. Department of Transportation 24-hour rule, flight bookings on itineraries departing from or to the United States at least 7 days after the booking date may be cancelled free of charge within 24 hours of purchase for a full refund to the original payment method.
Outside the 24-Hour Window
After the 24-hour window (or for itineraries departing within 7 days), cancellations and changes are governed by the airline's fare rules displayed at booking. Non-refundable fares are, by definition, not eligible for a monetary refund, though some airlines may issue an airline credit at their discretion.
Involuntary Changes by the Airline
If the airline cancels a flight or makes a significant schedule change, we will follow the airline's rebooking or refund policy and assist you in enforcing your rights.
3. Hotels
Each hotel rate on Mapapu shows its cancellation policy before purchase (for example, "Free cancellation until DD Mon YYYY" or "Non-refundable"). Cancellations made before the free-cancellation deadline are refunded in full to the original payment method. Cancellations after the deadline, or of non-refundable rates, are typically not eligible for a refund. Property-charged fees (city tax, resort fees) are collected by the hotel and are not refundable through Mapapu.
4. Activities, Tours and Car Rentals
These products follow the individual Supplier's cancellation policy, which is displayed before purchase and included in your confirmation email.
5. eSIM Products
eSIM data plans are non-refundable once delivered or activated. Because the QR code / activation profile is delivered digitally and can be installed immediately, eSIM purchases are treated as a digital service that begins performance on delivery. If an eSIM is defective or cannot be activated for technical reasons attributable to the provider, contact support@mapapu.com and we will investigate with the Supplier.
6. Travel Insurance
Travel insurance policies are governed by the insurer's terms and any free-look period stated in the policy documents.
7. How to Request a Cancellation
- Open the Trips page in your Mapapu account, select the booking, and choose the cancellation option (if eligible under the Supplier's rules).
- Or email support@mapapu.com with your booking reference and the reason for the cancellation.
- For urgent situations within 24 hours of departure, please contact the Supplier directly as well.
8. Refund Processing Times
Approved refunds are issued to the original payment method. Once Mapapu processes a refund, it typically takes 5–10 business days to appear on your statement, depending on your bank or card issuer. For refunds involving Supplier approval (e.g. airline waivers), additional time may be required.
9. Wallet Credits
Wallet credits applied to a booking are refunded back to your Wallet (not to your card) when the booking is cancelled and eligible for refund. Wallet credits themselves are promotional and are not exchangeable for cash — see the Terms of Service.
